For the first time in 21 years, Bury Conservatives took control of the Council on 16th May 2007.

The council is made up of:

26 Conservative Councillors

16 Labour Councillors

  9 Liberal Councillors

Bury is one of Lancashires oldest towns and owes much of its fortune to the Industrial Revolution during which

great wealth was

experienced and

many fine

architectural

buildings were

constructed.

Its famous

son, was Sir Robert

Peel the founder of the Police Force & Prime Minister in 1841.

  Over many years, our roads have

  been a low priority on the

  Council’s agenda. This will change. We will endeavour to improve the quality of roads and pavements and their overall cleanliness.

  Bury has the best performing

  schools within the Greater

  Manchester district and are

  continually highly placed within the country’s published league table. The Conservative Group will always defend our successful school system. Both our Primary and High Schools offer the best education in the country and the Conservatives are committed to protecting and supporting them in all areas.

  We are committed to

  maintaining a weekly

  collection of household general waste. We will enable all residents of the Borough to participate in the recycling process to which Conservatives are 100% committed.

  The Conservatives will fight

  crime and reduce the fear of

  crime by supporting the Police and partner agencies with initiatives, including street patrols, dispersal orders and ASBOs and their enforcement.

Bury has many blue chip companies with a highly skilled workforce. Direct links to the motorway makes Bury an ideal town for businesses looking to relocate and with the planned redevelopment in the town centre, we are confident that Bury will become the place to live, work and enjoy our leisure time.
